The Compass Studio
Tucked away in the garden of the Compass Inn in Winsor is the Compass Studio. It's a surprising delight to be found in this small forest village. There is a permanent display of paintings on show by Alan Langford and his wife Janet. It is a working studio/Gallery, and when open you will always find either or both Alan and Janet there painting or drawing.
What's On Offer?
Alan normally has about 35 pictures on display and Janet about 15. Picture sizes vary from Alan's large oils of 3ft x 4ft to Janet's small acrylic miniatures of 2.5ins x 3ins. There is also a portfolio of un-framed originals and prints, a display of framed “Warhorse Series” prints and artists own greeting card designs. Commissions are undertaken.
Browsers are always welcome and can stay as long as they wish with no obligation to buy. Access to the Studio is via the gate through to the pub garden, where you can see a 40ft long x 6ft high “Forest Round Up” mural painted by Alan.
If you are tempted you can get good ale and reasonably priced good quality food in the pub, along with a visit to see the paintings.
Where To Find Us
The Compass Studio is open all year from 11am to 4pm on Tuesday to Friday and Sunday. To locate it from the M27 junction (1) Cadnam , take the A336 towards Totton until you come to a crossroads with the “Haywain Pub” on the right. Take the left turning opposite the pub into Winsor Road and keep going along the country lane about 1 mile until you come to the compass Inn & Gallery on the right hand side.
Look forward to seeing you.
